Things to see and do in Maine

Our campground is located on the Maine coast, just a 40 minutes drive from Ellsworth. Mainayr Campground is centrally located in Downeast Maine, where the quiet natural beauty of the Maine coast still exists.

In only 15 to 60 minutes by car, campers can explore the many fishing villages, national and state parks and preserves, mountains, ponds, ocean, and coves that extend from the Blue Hill Peninsula in the West to Quoddy Head "Downeast."

Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park (Mount Desert Island) and Acadia National Park (Schoodic Section) are just a short drive to the southwest.

Visit uncrowded scenic points like Quoddy and Roque Bluffs State Parks, Great Wass Nature Conservancy at Beals Island and Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge in Steuben.

Hancock County offers galleries, craft shops, shopping and entertainment facilities. Bar Harbor is lots of fun, rain or shine. Take a tour at an award winning Bartlett Winery just a few miles from Mainayr. Beyond Ellsworth you will find the pastoral and picturesque villages of Surry, Blue Hill, Castine, Stonington and Deer Isle.

Explore Way Downeast

You can explore the truly uncommercialized "Downeast" Maine: working fishing villages at South Addison, Jonesport and Cutler; simple Downeast cuisine like blueberry pie and fresh seafood.

Visit the many small fishing villages of Prospect Harbor, Corea and Winter Harbor. You pass the blueberry barrens on your way to visit historical villages such as Columbia Falls, Machias and Cherryfield.
